Join us at a JSQCA x SJC Community Green Committee Meeting

All are welcome at these meetups which are intended to bring individuals, and community orgs, including neighborhood associations, together in discussion about topical sustainability and resiliency matters here in Jersey City.

The May 18th Wed eve meeting is CANCELLED; the next meeting is Wed eve June 15th 7pm

At this June 15th meeting we’ll be talking about Air Quality Issues in NJ and Jersey City, how the DEP is addressing / not addressing air pollution and emissions concerns around the state and what is happening with the NJ Turnpike Authority's proposal to expand I-78 aka the Turnpike Extension, which JC community orgs oppose, given the harm it will do to our community, and which goes against other plans the state has legislated to reduce emissions.

The Turnpike Extension would run from Newark through Jersey City to the Holland Tunnel - more information here.

We will discuss the following at this meeting -

• Sustainable JC will share an update on the Heat Watch & Air Quality Campaign, showing map of Asthma Alley in JC - we have the highest rates of asthma in Hudson County

• Members from Safe Streets and Empower NJ will share about the particulars of what the Turnpike Authority is proposing, the Legal Petition to stop it and ways for community groups and individuals can take action against the project - quick preview STRIKE THE PIKE Campaign flyer here.
